The season of rest is upon us.
For some, you’re basking in the glow of the holiday break; for others, you’re fending off the impending gloom of the darkening days or spiralling in a sea of seasonal commitments (I’m in the last category.) Wherever you are, rest is coming.
In our never-off culture, only accelerated by the explosion of AI-generated content and complexity this year, it can feel countercultural to pull back and live differently.
That’s why I find such hope in the Christmas season. It’s a holy pause for all of us — regardless of our beliefs — in a world that won’t stop moving.

YEAR IN REVIEW
It’s hard to believe we launched JOMO(campus) this year. We prioritized our new college focus because we know that students suffer especially from tech overuse and that digital boundaries are needed to support their well-being and academic focus.
We are proud to be part of that solution.
These are still early days, but our 2023 Highlights have us leaning into the new year with great hope and clarity of purpose. They include:
Expanding impact at our anchor school, Virginia Tech — nearly 1000 students have completed the JOMO 4-week digital well-being challenge; new-year launch of weekly spring campaign; upcoming administrative Spring Renewal 2024 training; PLUS, VT being named the first certified Digitally-Well University.
New Campuses! Eight new campuses partnered with JOMO to begin digital well-being programming this year, including St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto and Elon University.
NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) recognition for Christina Crook and Laurie Fritsch’s pioneering work in developing Strategies to Improve Digital Well-being in the University Environment.
Secondary School pilots. This fall, we signed secondary school association agreements to co-create a “for teachers, by teachers” digital well-being curriculum with select West Coast campuses.
On behalf of the JOMO team, I wish you all the joys of the holiday season and the rest you so richly deserve. We look forward to partnering with you in 2024.
